STANISLAUS COUNTY — A 31‑year‑old Modesto man died the morning of March 21 after his car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head‑on with a pickup on Highway 33 near Frank Cox Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 7:50 a.m. March 21. Responding crews found a 2007 Honda Civic and a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado with major front‑end damage.

The Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 30‑year‑old Josue Orepeza of Newman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

CHP investigators said the Honda was traveling north on Highway 33 and approaching traffic stopped at the Frank Cox Road intersection when the driver turned left across double‑yellow lines into the southbound lane. The Honda continued into the intersection and struck the oncoming Chevrolet.

All involved were wearing seat belts, officers said. Investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors.

Traffic delays were minimal, and the investigation is ongoing.
