The Newman Fire Station responded to 32 calls for service from Dec. 28 to Jan. 4. The calls included 19 for Emergency Medical Services, two potential structure fires, four alarm calls, two vehicle collisions, one vehicle fire call, two mutual aid calls and two public assistance calls.
At 5:28 p.m. the Newman Station was dispatched for a trash fire in the area of Crows Landing Road and River Road. On arrival, the fire crew found a trash fire which had extended to a fence. The fire crew extinguished the fire and the cause was undetermined. No injuries or estimated damages were reported.
At 8:19 a.m. on Dec. 31, the Newman Fire Station was dispatched for a mutual aid structure fire in the 200 block of Third Street in Gustine. On arrival, the fire crew was assigned to help extinguish the fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and the cause was undetermined. The damage estimated was unknown.
At 7:58 a.m. on Jan. 1, the Newman Station was dispatched for a vehicle collision in the area of Fink Road and Bell Road. On arrival, the fire crews found a single vehicle on its roof off the roadway. The fire crews secured the vehicle and the damages were estimated at $8,000. The occupant was out of the vehicle complaining of minor injuries. The cause of the incident is under investigation by CHP.
At 1:52 p.m. on Jan. 2, the Newman Station was dispatched to assist law enforcement in the area of Cedar Mountain Drive and Mt. Diablo Court. On arrival, the fire crews were instructed by law enforcement to force entry to a home for a welfare check. The fire crew gained entry and an occupant was found needing medical attention.
At 6:07 a.m. on Jan. 3, the Newman Station was dispatched for a vehicle fire on southbound Interstate 5 and Fink Road. On arrival, the fire crews found that a semi-truck had broken down and the occupant had used gasoline and a lighter to create a fire as a traffic warning device. No injuries or damages were reported.
