Motorcyclist from Gustine killed in San Jose Highway 101 crash

A motorcyclist from Gustine in Merced County was killed on the morning of Nov. 10 when he lost control of his bike and was struck by a trailing vehicle on Highway 101 in San Jose, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported at 8:46 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Capitol Avenue. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Angelo Cardoso, died at the scene.

Investigators said Cardoso lost control of his motorcycle and went down in the roadway. A 2018 Kia Soul SUV traveling behind him struck Cardoso and then overturned. The driver of the Kia was not seriously injured, according to the CHP.

Traffic on southbound Highway 101 was restricted to a single lane for about three hours while officers examined the crash site and cleared debris.

The CHP said the collision remains under investigation.
