NEWMAN — Newman police officers rushed to a neighborhood Tuesday night after a 911 caller reported a person pointing a pistol during an argument, only to discover the group involved was playing a high‑school “Senior Assassin” game with water guns, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched at about 10:16 p.m. to the 900 block of Haycastle Court after a caller reported a subject holding a handgun during a verbal dispute. As officers were en route, the caller reported the person was now pointing the weapon at another individual, police said.

When officers arrived, they found four 18‑year‑old high school seniors from Newman and ordered them to the ground. The teens immediately complied and told officers they were carrying water guns. Police said the investigation confirmed the items were toys and that all four were cooperative.

According to the department, the group was participating in “Senior Assassin,” a game in which students attempt to eliminate opponents using water guns. No injuries were reported, and officers determined no crime had been committed. The teens were lectured about the risks and released.

Police said the incident highlights the dangers of the tradition, noting that members of the public may not recognize the game and may mistake water guns for real weapons. The department also cited past reports of unsafe driving and the strain such calls place on emergency resources.

Parents were urged to talk with their seniors about the risks associated with the game.
