Gustine Police Dept.
Gustine police responded to a handful of calls over the past week, including a misdemeanor arrest and several service details across the city.
On Dec. 26, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Avenue, where a subject was arrested on suspicion of contempt of court for allegedly disobeying a court order, a misdemeanor violation.
Police also investigated a report of suspicious circumstances on Dec. 29 at Gustine Garden Apartments on the 300 block of Wallis Avenue. Officers cleared the call as “detail complete.”
Earlier in the week, on Dec. 27, officers handled an animal control detail at the Gustine Unified School District offices on the 1500 block of Meredith Avenue. The call was resolved within minutes.
That same evening, police responded to an alarm activation at Simply Grace Fellowship on the 800 block of Sycamore Avenue. Officers determined the incident to be a false alarm.
Newman Police Dept.
The Newman Police Department received 51 calls for service and reported 64 officer-initiated calls for a total of 115 incidents from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.
There were eight cases opened and three arrests, all for being unlicensed rivers. The department issued 14 traffic citations.
Arson reported on M Street
Police are investigating an arson reported in the 1200 block of M Street after a resident discovered damage to his vehicle on the morning of Dec. 31. The victim told officers he noticed one of his tail lights had melted and was covered in black residue, indicating it had been burned. The estimated damage was $500. The case is currently listed as inactive.
