Newman Police Dept.
The Newman Police Department received 59 calls for service and reported 73 officer-initiated calls for a total of 132 incidents from Feb. 13 to Feb. 19.
There were 12 cases opened and six arrests, including one for driving without a license. The department issued 12 traffic citations, one criminal citation and three parking citations.
Arrests
Leshell Canale, 31, of Newman was arrested on Feb. 13 for driving with a suspended license (misdemeanor) and a warrant arrest out of Van Nuys (misdemeanor).
Mohamed Rashed, 55, of Newman was arrested on Feb. 14 for disorderly conduct (misdemeanor).
Lazs King, 48, of Newman was arrested on Feb. 15 for battery (misdemeanor).
Amneet Kaur, 28, of Sunnyvale was arrested on Feb. 16 for DUI (misdemeanor), DUI .08 or greater (misdemeanor), driving with a license suspended for DUI (misdemeanor), and a warrant arrest out of Stanislaus County (misdemeanor).
Miguel Baires Ortiz, 35, of Newman was arrested on Feb. 17 for possession of a controlled substance (misdemeanor), possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor), and a warrant arrest out of Stanislaus County (misdemeanor).
Gustine Police Dept.
Gustine Police respond to theft, vandalism and suspicious activity
Gustine police handled a series of calls between Feb. 12 and Feb. 19, including a vehicle theft, vandalism and multiple reports of suspicious circumstances.
On Feb. 12, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the 1400 block of Ashmount Lane. The call was cleared after officers completed their investigation.
Two days later, on Feb. 14, police took a felony report of a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent on the 500 block of 7th Street. The case was classified as embezzlement under state vehicle code.
Officers were called to 33 Market on the 300 block of 4th Street on Feb. 16 for a vandalism report. The incident, which occurred around 7:16 a.m., was logged as misdemeanor property damage.
That same morning, at 1:58 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm at the Gustine Unified School District offices on the 1500 block of Meredith Avenue. The alarm was determined to be false.
On Feb. 19, officers investigated a report of a suspicious person on the 1500 block of Ashmount Lane. The call was closed shortly after officers arrived.
Newman Fire Dept.
The Newman Fire Station responded to 23 calls for service from Feb. 12 to Feb. 19. The calls included 13 for Emergency Medical Services, four fire alarm calls, one vehicle collision, two unknown fire calls, one mutual aid call, two public assists.
On February 12, at 9:14 a.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for an unknown type of fire near Crows Landing Road and Carpenter Road. On arrival, the fire crews found a large garbage pile involved. The fire crews rapidly extinguished the fire and notified County Code Enforcement. There were no damages or injuries to report. The cause of the fire was intentional.
On February 17, at 3:40 a.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for a vehicle collision in the area of Stuhr Road and Villa Manucha Road. On arrival, the fire crews found a single vehicle versus a cow. The fire crews blocked traffic and assisted with debris removal. The damages were estimated at $7,000.
