After a fire caused damage to its expanded learning building, Newman Crows-Landing Unified School District Board of Education on Thursday approved to begin work on its remodeling.
The building, which held offices for the district’s curriculum instruction and Beyond the Bell program, suffered damage to some of its areas. This includes the office space near the building’s entrance and its roof, NCLUSD Superintendent Justin Pruett said.
He said that the remodeling could take between six months to a year. Staff members whose offices were at the building have relocated to different offices across the district, including some at Von Renner Elementary School.
“We already have a plan where the different offices are going to be in different locations around the district,” Pruett said. “We have a couple of offices at Von Renner [Elementary] with the new construction.
As a part of California Public Contract Code sections 22035 and 22050, the district is authorized to continue emergency work and form a contract agreement without adopting a plan, allowing a bid or giving a notice.
Around $250,000 in damages were caused to the building.
