Barbara Bento, 77 of Gustine, CA, passed away on March 28, 2026. Born on June 24, 1948, Barbara grew up in Patterson, CA and moved to Gustine in 1972 with her two sons when her and Butch (Manuel) were married. There she established herself in the community with enthusiasm and following of football and baseball throughout her sons’ lives. She and Butch extended this passion for sports with their continued support for the SF 49ers and LA Dodgers. In addition to supporting the Gustine community in her work at Sousa Grocery, Bernard Pharmacy, True Value Hardware, Husman Hatchery, Napa Auto, and Shirt Tales, which she later came to own, Barbara thrived in her meticulous gardening, holiday décor and planning with family gatherings, antique hunting, DIY projects, and game nights with close friends. She also enjoyed attending community events like comedy nights and oyster feeds at the Gustine Past-Time, Gustine Linguica Run, city parades, and surrounding crab feeds. Barbara is survived by her husband, Butch Bento; sons, Kevin Callahan of Turlock and Kirk and Alicia of Groveland; brother, Larry Mencebo; nephew, Matthew Mancebo; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie and Alice Mancebo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1101 Sylvan Ave C105, Modesto, CA 95350 on behalf of Barbara.

A Visitation will be held at 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Hillview Funeral Chapels in Gustine. The Mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. Interment to follow at Patterson District Cemetery. The family encourages all to wear their 49er and Dodger attire to honor Barbara.
