Gustine - The Gustine Reds (2-1) proved their strength on Friday night, September 5, with a decisive 33-13 victory over the visiting Riverbank Bruins (1-1).
After a slow start to the game, the Reds' offense ignited in the second quarter and never looked back, putting on a dominating performance in front of their home crowd.
Gustine broke the scoreless tie early in the second quarter, putting the first seven points on the board. While the Bruins managed to respond twice, their efforts were consistently stifled by a powerful Gustine defense that controlled the line of scrimmage.
The game's standout performer was Gustine’s number 7, Crue Correa. The versatile athlete had a career night, racking up over 100 yards of rushing, highlighted by a spectacular 80-yard kickoff return. On the defensive side of the ball, Correa was equally impressive from his linebacker position, tallying one sack and multiple key tackles.
Gustine’s offensive depth was on full display as number 21, Joao Palamino, also had a highlight-reel performance. Palamino caught a 40-yard touchdown reception and added more than 50 yards on the ground. He also made a crucial defensive play, defending a potential touchdown pass to prevent a Bruins' score. The defensive front continued to apply pressure, with number 50, Justin Lopes, adding a sack to the stat sheet to help seal the victory for the Reds.
Looking ahead, the Gustine Reds will travel to Oakhurst, California, for their next non-league matchup. They are set to face the Yosemite Badgers (1-2) on Friday, September 12, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
