Gustine Volleyball splits week with highs and lows
sports

After soaring to a dominant sweep over Modesto Christian on Monday, the Gustine High volleyball team was grounded by Stone Ridge Christian on Wednesday, falling in straight sets to the Knights for the sixth consecutive time.

The Reds opened the week with a commanding 3-0 league win against the Crusaders, posting set scores of 26-25, 25-20, and 25-15. The victory showcased Gustine’s offensive rhythm and defensive grit, with junior outside hitter Adamaris Sierra and senior Jaclynn Lopez leading the charge. Sierra, who averages 2.5 kills per set and has tallied 79 kills on the season, continues to be Gustine’s top attacker. Lopez, a senior standout, added to her season total of 62 kills and leads the team in serving aces with 33.

However, Wednesday’s matchup against Stone Ridge Christian told a different story. The Knights swept the Reds 3-0, extending Gustine’s losing streak against them to six matches. Despite the loss, junior Annalise Davidson emerged as the offensive bright spot, recording 10 digs and two aces to keep the Reds competitive.

Gustine’s overall record now stands at 6-15, with a 4-10 finish in league play. The team’s defensive backbone includes junior libero Syrena Chacon, who leads the squad with 54 digs, and Sierra, who adds 50 digs to her versatile stat line. Middle hitter Martha Torres anchors the net with a team-high five total blocks, while senior opposite hitters Gwendolyn Barcelos and Josie Nunes contribute three and two blocks respectively.

Setter Kimberly Ramirez continues to facilitate the offense with 33 assists and ranks third in aces per set. Her steady play has helped the Reds maintain competitive energy throughout the season.

As Gustine closes out its campaign, the team will look to build on its strengths and break through long-standing matchups like the one against Stone Ridge. With a core of underclassmen gaining experience and seniors leaving a legacy of hustle and heart, the Reds remain focused on growth and grit heading into the offseason.
