Continuing its Trans-Valley League schedule, Orestimba High boys’ soccer team were shutout by Escalon High 3-0 at home last Friday.
Orestimba fell to 6-8-4 overall and 1-5-2 in the TVL slate, while Escalon improved to 9-5-1 and 4-3 against TVL opponents.
After a scoreless first half, three different Cougars players scored a goal in the second half. Warriors head coach Jose Serratos said depth was the difference, adding that the team has dealt with injured players.
Forward Co Northcutt scored the first goal of the evening when he dribbled the ball near the left side of the goalbox and kicked it to the right side put Escalon ahead, 1-0, seven minutes into the second half.
Orestimba had an opportunity to respond with a goal of their own in the 51st minute when forward Jovany Franco dribbled past two Escalon defenders, but he kicked the ball over the goalpost. Five minutes later, it was Warriors midfielder Bryant Lopez’s shot attempt that went over the goalpost.
Cougars halfback Isaac Patino was fouled by a Warriors defender in the 64th minute, resulting in a free kick. Patino scored the goal to put Escalon ahead by two goals.
Throughout the remaining part of the game, Orestimba couldn’t find an opportunity to score as the Warriors moved the ball past midfield but missed on their shots at goal.
With two minutes, forward Damian Morales scored the final goal of the evening to extend the Cougars’ lead to three points.
With four games remaining in its season, Serratos said he wants the team to “play our best game and get results.”
Orestimba will travel to Sonora High (6-8) (4-4 TVL) on Friday with kickoff beginning at 5:45 p.m.
