After losing by 10 runs three days before, Orestimba was swept in its series against Hughson High after getting shutout 17-0 on Friday.
The Warriors fell to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in Trans-Valley League play, while the Huskies improved to 6-10 overall and 3-3 against league opponents.
While it's the result the team didn’t want, Orestimba head coach Louie Dominguez said the loss will help the team learn from its mistakes to become a perennial team in TVL, especially after last season where the team went winless in league play.
“It’s gonna take time. So we’ll take all the positives that we’re doing, and we’ll get better,” Dominguez said. “We can show up on the field and play baseball with them.”
Hughson freshman infielder Tanner Ehlers recorded his best performance of the season so far with six RBIs, two runs and a homerun. His homerun against the Warriors was his second this season. Joining Ehlers was senior outfielder Benji Ocegueda, who recorded four RBIs and a run. In the series, Ocegueda recorded five RBIs and four runs total.
Senior pitcher Isaac Luperico found success on the mound with seven strikeouts and allowed two runs and two walks.
Through four innings, the Huskies held a 10-0 lead. However, the game became out of reach in the fifth inning. Hughson scored seven runs to not only lead by 17 runs, but to effectively end the game for a series sweep.
The Warriors will host its next series opener against Hilmar High (5-6) (0-4 TVL) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
