Gustine Football Drops Fifth Straight, Prepares for Stone Ridge Christian

Gustine High School’s varsity football team suffered its fifth consecutive loss on Friday, falling 21-12 to Le Grand in a hard-fought Trans Valley League matchup. The defeat mirrored last year’s result against the Bulldogs and dropped the Reds to 2-6 overall on the season. Despite showing signs of improvement on both sides of the ball, Gustine struggled to convert key opportunities into points and couldn’t overcome Le Grand’s early lead.

The Reds will now turn their attention to a tough opponent in Stone Ridge Christian, who enters Friday’s contest riding a four-game winning streak. With just two games remaining in the regular season, Gustine will look to regroup and finish strong. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Gustine Volleyball Falls to Delhi in Four Sets

Gustine High School’s volleyball team was unable to snap its losing streak on Wednesday, falling 3-1 to the Delhi Hawks in a Trans Valley League matchup. The loss marks the Reds’ sixth consecutive defeat and mirrors their earlier season result against Delhi, when they also dropped a 3-1 decision in September.

Despite a hard-fought third set win, Gustine couldn’t sustain momentum. The final scores were 25-16, 25-10, 24-26, 25-16. The Reds showed flashes of resilience, particularly in the third set, but struggled to contain Delhi’s front-row attack and consistent serving.

With the defeat, Gustine’s overall record slips to 4-14. Meanwhile, Delhi continues to build late-season momentum, having won three of their last four matches to improve to 9-10. As the regular season winds down, the Reds will look to regroup and finish strong, leaning on senior leadership and continued development from underclassmen.

Orestimba Volleyball Falls to Hughson, Eyes Redemption Against Ripon Christian

Orestimba High School’s volleyball team continued its late-season skid on Thursday, falling in straight sets to Hughson in a Trans Valley League matchup. The 3-0 defeat mirrored the Warriors’ earlier loss to the Huskies in September and extended their losing streak to four matches. Final scores were 25-16, 25-21, and 25-15, with Orestimba showing flashes of competitiveness but unable to close out key rallies.

The loss dropped the Warriors’ overall record to 11-18, while Hughson improved to 23-9 with their third consecutive win. Orestimba will now turn its attention to a home match against Ripon Christian on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. The Knights have had the upper hand in recent years, winning all ten matchups against the Warriors since September 2021. However, Orestimba hopes to rally behind its home crowd and snap the streak with a strong performance.

Gustine Flag Football Falls to Millennium, Eyes Road Test at River Islands

Gustine High School’s girls flag football team continued its late-season struggles on Thursday, falling 35-7 to the Millennium Falcons in a road matchup. The defeat marked the Reds’ fifth straight loss and their second setback against Millennium this season, having previously dropped a 14-0 contest in September.

With the loss, Gustine’s overall record slipped to 3-15, while Millennium improved to 7-7. Despite the scoreline, the Reds showed flashes of offensive potential, including a second-half touchdown drive, but were ultimately outmatched by the Falcons’ speed and execution on both sides of the ball.

Gustine now turns its attention to a tough road test against River Islands on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. The Riptide boast one of the stingiest defenses in the region, allowing just 14.3 points per game this season. The Reds will need to find rhythm early and capitalize on scoring chances if they hope to break out of their current slump and close the season on a high note.
