GUSTINE — Stone Ridge Christian spoiled Gustine’s Senior Night with a dominant 43-7 victory Friday, extending the Reds’ losing streak to six games and improving their own record to 8-1.
The evening began with a heartfelt ceremony honoring Gustine’s football and cheer seniors, but once play began, the Knights quickly took control. After a scoreless opening exchange, Stone Ridge broke through with a touchdown pass late in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
The Knights capitalized on a failed fake punt early in the second quarter, scoring from five yards out to double their lead. A 10-yard touchdown pass and successful two-point conversion pushed the margin to 22-0. Gustine recovered a fumble with under four minutes left in the half, but Stone Ridge responded with another score to enter halftime up 29-0.
Gustine opened the second half with an onside kick recovery but fumbled the ball away moments later. Stone Ridge added another touchdown to make it 36-0 by the end of the third quarter and tacked on one more early in the fourth.
The Reds avoided a shutout with a 60-yard touchdown run by Crue Correa, followed by a successful point-after attempt to bring the final score to 43-7.
Gustine (2-6) will close out its season next Friday on the road against Delhi (1-8).
