RIPON – In its first four games this season, the Orestimba High football team’s offense scored two or more touchdowns en route to a 2-2 record.
But in two Trans-Valley League games, the Warriors are in the process of finding the end zone.
In Friday’s game at Ripon High, the host Indians jumped out to an early lead to record a 49-0 win over Orestimba (0-2 in the TVL, 2-4 overall) at Wes Stouffer Field. Sonora also shut out the Warriors 56-0 in the league opener at Warrior Stadium on Sept. 26.
“All we can do is watch the film and continue to get better,” said Orestimba head coach Austin Martins. “We have four games left and a lot can happen. We have to control what we can control and continue to play hard.”
Ripon jumped out to a 42-0 lead at halftime. The Indians scored three touchdowns each in the first and second quarters.
The Indians had 322 total rushing yards in the game, and only 46 passing.
Upcoming game
Orestimba will be at home this Friday to face Westside rival Hilmar (1-2 in the TVL, 4-3). The visiting Yellowjackets almost pulled off the shocker of the season on Friday, leading Sonora until the fourth quarter when the Wildcats scored the go-ahead touchdown to post a 22-21 victory. Sonora (3-0 in the TVL, 7-0) had been scoring an average of four touchdowns this season and holding opponents to two or less touchdowns.
This Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Other TVL games this Friday have Hughson at Sonora and Ripon Christian at cross-city rival Ripon. Escalon has the bye week, and returns to action at Ripon Christian on Friday, Oct. 17.
