  Newman 4-H Club Small Animal members recently exhibited their stock at the Big Valley Rabbit Association Show and the Golden State Cavy Breeders Association Show held  at the Merced fairgrounds, several breed Specialty Shows were also featured that day.

     At the GSCBA  Double Show, Julian Leon exhibited 2 Red and 2 Red Roan American cavies, placing with 7 first place honors, 1 second place, 2 Best of Variety,

1 Best Opposite of Variety and 1 Best of Breed.  Leon’s Senior Red Boar was named Best in Show.

     At the BVRA Triple Show, Brian Casey exhibited a pair of Golden Palominos.  Casey received 2 first place honors and 4 second place ribbons.  Casey also received 2 Best Opposite of Variety, 2 Best Opposite of Sex, 1 each Best of Variety and Best of Breed awards.  Casey’s Intermediate Golden Doe, “Brian’s Bunny Barn’s Mercedes” was named Best of Breed in two of the Shows.

     Olivia Casey exhibited four breeds in the BVRA Show and participated in the Westcoast Himalayan Promoters Speciatly Show.  In the specialty show, Casey’s Himalayan Black bucks placed 2nd and 4th, while her doe placed 11th.  In the BVRA Show, Casey’s Himalayan black bucks received three -1st place awards and two - 2nd place awards, with the black doe placing with two – 3rd place awards and one – 4th.  Casey’s black senior buck, “Bubble Gum Bunnies Walley” was awarded Best Opposite Sex of Variety and Breed.   In the Lilac division, Casey’s senior buck received three – 2nd place awards, and the senior doe, Bubble Gum Bunny’s Bunny Rabbit” placed with two- 2nd place awards and one 1st place awards and was awarded Best Opposite Sex of Breed honors.  In the Palomino division, Casey’s intermediate doe placed with one first and was awarded Best Opposite Sex of Variety and Breed, while her intermediate Buck “Bubble Gum Bunny’s Archer” received two 1st place awards and one 2nd and was awarded Best of Variety and Best of Breed as well as Best Opposite Sex of Variety and Breed.  Casey also exhibited Champagne D’Argents, with her intermediate buck “Bubble Gum Bunny’s Carl” receiving three 1st place awards and three Best of Breed honors.  “Bubble Gum Bunny’s Journee” was awarded three 1st place awards and three Best Opposite Sex of Breed honors.  A second intermediate doe received three 2nd place honors.

     The group plans to participate in several more shows in the coming weeks.
