GUSTINE — Under clear skies and warm spring sunshine, Gustine’s annual Citywide Yard Sales turned the town into a bustling treasure hunt over the weekend, drawing bargain‑seekers, casual strollers and neighbors eager for a chance to reconnect.

With more than two full pages of registered sales — and many more residents joining in informally — the event stretched across neighborhoods, creating a steady flow of cars, walkers and families armed with reusable bags and hopeful curiosity. The weather couldn’t have been better, and the turnout reflected it.

From early morning, shoppers fanned out across Gustine in search of everything from vintage tools to kids’ clothes, home décor and unexpected finds. For many, the thrill wasn’t just in the bargain — it was in the possibility.

“You never know what you’re going to find at a yard sale,” said Ryan Baylor, who spent the morning scouting for yard items and old tools. “That’s part of the fun — you go out looking for one thing and end up finding something you didn’t even know you needed.”

For others, the day was as much about community as it was about shopping. Billie Jean Rocha and Nola Rocha Campos took advantage of the pleasant Saturday weather to walk the neighborhoods, stopping at any sale that “struck their fancy.”

“It’s just a beautiful day to be out,” Campos said. We’ve run into so many people we haven’t seen in a while. It feels like the whole town is out enjoying the same thing.”

On the selling side, participation was strong — helped by the city’s free permit system and encouragement to post sale details and photos online. Many residents said the event gave them the perfect excuse for spring cleaning.

This was Stacy Parker’s second year hosting a sale, and this time she was selling items for multiple families. The turnout, she said, was noticeably higher.

“It’s nice that we don’t have to pay for a permit and get a chance to do some spring cleaning,” Parker said. “And it’s great the community comes together like this. You meet new people, see new faces — it’s just a good day all around.”

Veteran yard‑seller Mary Garcia kicked off her sale early and saw a strong morning rush before things settled into a quieter afternoon rhythm.

“I like to hold a few yard sales each year,” she said. “The citywide one always brings people out. It’s a good way to clear things out and meet folks.”

The city encouraged shoppers to stop by local restaurants and stores while out exploring, and many did — turning the event into a boost not just for residents, but for small businesses as well.

With participation increasing each year and the community embracing the event as both a social outing and a shopping adventure, Gustine’s Citywide Yard Sales have become a spring tradition that blends nostalgia, neighborliness and the simple joy of discovery.
