Platinum win for Olivia Casey

Isabell Hayes

Newman 4-H Reporter

Newman 4-H member, Olivia Casey presented an informative prepared speech at the State public speaking contest, held at UC Davis. Casey had to work her way up through county and regional presentation days to be represented at the State level.

Casey’s speech was titled, “One Thing I Would Like to Change in My Community” and it focused on food insecurities in the communities of Gustine and Newman.  Casey credits much of her success with her speech to Mr. Victor Perry for his assistance with contacts and information aiding her in her research.

Casey was awarded a Platinum Medal for her speech, the highest award possible and only presented at the State level.

Newman 4-H Primary members Julian Leon and Brian Casey joined members from all over Stanislaus County to participate in the event, where they learned about Wild Life Rescue, Water Safety and emergency medical responses.  Westport Fire brought in their mechanics truck explaining the importance of maintenance and repairs.
