NEWMAN — Orestimba High School will turn pink on Thursday, October 2, as students, athletes, and community members unite for Dig Pink 2025, a district-wide event supporting breast cancer awareness and research.
Organized by the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District (NCLUSD), the event encourages students and staff to participate in a “Pink Out Day” by wearing pink to school and to the volleyball matches held at Orestimba High. All proceeds from the day’s activities will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national nonprofit that funds metastatic breast cancer research and provides support services for patients and families.
The volleyball action begins at 3:30 p.m. with Yolo Middle School facing Gustine Middle School, followed by additional matches at 4:30 p.m. Orestimba High will take the court against Gustine High at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. The event also features performances by the OHS Pep Band and cheerleaders.
DIG PINK T-shirts will be sold for $12 and wristbands for $1. Businesses or those wishing to honor someone, can purchase a T-shirt for $100, which will have the name on the back.
In addition to volleyball and fundraising, a Linguica Take-Out Dinner will be available. Tickets can be purchased from any volleyball player at Yolo or OHS, or by contacting event coordinator Angela Mackovich-Reyes at amackovich@nclusd.k12.ca.us.
Last year, NCLUSD raised more than $18,000 for the Side-Out Foundation. Organizers hope to surpass that total in 2025 by rallying the community around a cause that touches many lives.
The Side-Out Foundation raises funds that benefit research teams across the country that are focusing on cutting-edge targeted diagnostics and therapy, along with organizations working directly with individuals with cancer to provide medical and emotional support.
