Through the Lens: Honoring Veterans in Gustine
westside vets 1
Scenes from the Westside Veterans Day Parade in Gustine on Nov. 11 captured the heart of a community honoring its heroes. In one image, the Westside Honor Guard stands before leading the procession, a tradition that reflects their ongoing service at internment ceremonies across the region. Another photo shows vintage military vehicles rumbling down Main Street, drawing cheers and salutes from spectators lining the sidewalks. Students from Our Lady of Miracles Catholic School brought youthful energy to the parade, waving miniature American flags as they marched in tribute. Outside Veterans Memorial Hall, community members gathered for the flag-raising ceremony, a moment of reflection and unity that followed the parade’s conclusion. Hosted by VFW Post 7635 “Joseph G. Rose,” American Legion Post 240 “Manuel M. Lopes,” and their Auxiliaries, the event served as both a celebration of service and a call to action, reminding attendees of the importance of supporting local veteran organizations and preserving the legacy of those who’ve served. - photo by Dan Gomes
