Two holiday toy drives are underway in western Stanislaus County, giving residents multiple opportunities to help children and families in need during the Christmas season.
The Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District has launched its annual Giving Tree program, which invites community members to select a tag representing a child in need. The Angel Tree is located at the district office, 1223 Main St., and at Joe’s Coffee, 1335 Main St. in Newman. Each tag lists a child’s age, gender and gift preferences.
Organizers said the program is designed to ensure students across the district experience the joy of receiving a gift during the holidays. Donors are asked to purchase a gift based on the tag information and return it unwrapped, with the tag securely attached, to either location by Dec. 10. The deadline allows volunteers time to sort and distribute the presents before school lets out for winter break.
“This program is a chance for our community to come together and create special holiday memories for our students and families,” district officials said in a statement. Questions can be directed to the district office at (209) 862-2933.
In Gustine, the police department is also collecting toys and donations. New, unwrapped toys or cash contributions can be dropped off in the lobby of the police department. The toys will be delivered to families on Dec. 19.
Families who wish to register for assistance or apply to receive toys can do so online at https://tinyurl.com/gpdtoy. Police officials said the drive is intended to support families who may be struggling financially and to strengthen ties between officers and the community.
Both efforts highlight the spirit of giving across the Westside. With deadlines approaching in early and mid-December, organizers encourage residents to participate soon to ensure every child has a gift to open.
