GUSTINE – unWired Broadband has begun connecting customers in Gustine to its NextGen Fiber Internet network, marking a major milestone in the city’s efforts to improve high-speed internet access. The first installation was completed on June 6, following months of construction that began in March.
The multi-million-dollar project, funded in part through a grant from the Last Mile Federal Funding Account, aims to deliver speeds of up to 5 Gbps to nearly 2,500 addresses in Gustine. Construction remains on schedule for completion by September 2025.
“We’re thrilled to bring our NextGen Fiber to the Gustine community,” said Matt Murphy, CEO of unWired Broadband. “The support we’ve received here has been incredible, and it’s rewarding to see the first residents already enjoying what we’ve built together.”
unWired’s expansion is expected to have a significant impact on residents and businesses by improving access to remote work, telemedicine, and educational resources. Officials believe the availability of high-speed fiber internet could also boost property values and drive economic growth.
At a Gustine City Council meeting on March 18, Strategic Projects Manager Mark Peterson emphasized the benefits of fiber technology. “The service will be 5GB, which is blazing fast,” Peterson said. He also noted the competition brought by Comcast’s concurrent internet expansion in the city, saying that it ensures no customer is “taken for granted.”
unWired Broadband, headquartered in Fresno, has specialized in serving rural and underserved communities across Central and Northern California since 2003. The company operates a fixed wireless network spanning more than 200 towers in 17 counties and has been recognized as Best Internet Service Provider by The Fresno Bee for four consecutive years.
The company launched its NextGen Fiber network in Coalinga in 2024, where more than 1,000 customers have already been connected. Expansion efforts continue with builds underway in Parlier and other cities.
unWired will host a groundbreaking ceremony in Gustine in the coming weeks to commemorate the launch of the fiber network.
