Newman Historical Society Plans Valentine’s Salad Luncheon

The Newman Historical Society will hold its annual Valentine’s Day Salad Luncheon on Feb. 13 at the Louie J. Newman Memorial Building from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fundraiser supports the Newman Museum and its preservation work.

Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance. They are available by calling Glennis Kidder at 209‑862‑2725, Mary Vaz Moore at 209‑862‑3822 or Debbie Allan at 209‑862‑3571, or by visiting the museum during open hours.

The luncheon will feature a door prize and opportunity drawings. The museum, housed in the historic 1920 Carnegie Library building, is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free.

 

 ICF Branch 54 Hosting Annual Pasta Take‑Out Fundraiser

The Italian Catholic Federation Branch 54 will hold its annual Pasta Take‑Out on Monday, Feb. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the GPS Hall in Gustine. The fundraiser features the late Frank Borrelli Sr.’s well‑known sauce recipe, a longtime community favorite. Dinner plates are available for a $15 donation, and quarts of sauce may be purchased separately for $10. Native Sons Parlor to Hold Feb. 5 Dinner Meeting

John C. Fremont Parlor No. 293 of the Native Sons of the Golden West will hold its next dinner meeting on Feb. 5 at the Veterans Hall in Gustine. Cards and visiting begin at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and bingo will follow.

Members are asked to RSVP at 209‑918‑1451 so an accurate dinner count can be prepared. The parlor also encourages members to invite prospective new members.

Those who have not yet paid their 2026 dues of $60 are asked to bring payment to the dinner or send it in so the books can be closed for the year.

 

Gustine FFA Ag Boosters to Host Annual Dinner Dance Jan. 31

The Gustine FFA Ag Boosters will hold their Annual Dinner Dance on Jan. 31 at the Al Goman Center, inviting the community to an evening of food, auctions and support for local FFA students.

This year’s theme, “Harvesting Their Potential,” celebrates student achievements while raising funds for leadership development, agricultural education programs, competitions and hands‑on learning opportunities. The 21‑and‑over event includes drinks, along with live and silent auctions.

A social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Take‑out meals will be available from 5 to 6 p.m. for those who wish to support the fundraiser but cannot stay.

Gustine Historical Society Annual Meeting

The Gustine Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Jan. 27, where longtime resident and World War II survivor Joe Mosko will serve as keynote speaker. Mosko, who was born in Czechoslovakia and survived the early years of the war before immigrating to the United States, later settled in Gustine, worked at the John Jensen ranch, attended Gustine High School and earned a degree from San Jose State University.

The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. at Perry’s More Than Pizza and includes a $15 lunch. Mosko’s presentation, “A Wonderful Life in Gustine and in the Westside,” will reflect on his life story and decades of community involvement.

West Side Theatre Foundation Seeks Volunteers for “Shine Crew”

The West Side Theatre Foundation is calling on community members to join its “Shine Crew,” a volunteer team dedicated to keeping the historic West Side Theatre in top condition. Volunteers are asked to donate just one hour of their time one to two Thursdays per month to help maintain the venue’s welcoming atmosphere.

Organizers say the Shine Crew plays a vital role in preserving the theatre’s charm and cleanliness for patrons and performers alike. Those interested in lending a hand can contact the West Side Theatre Foundation directly for scheduling and details.

 

County Clerk to host ‘Marriage at the Mansion’ on Valentine’s Day

The Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder’s Office will host its annual “Marriage at the Mansion” event on Valentine’s Day, offering individualized civil ceremonies inside the historic McHenry Mansion. Weddings will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, with ceremonies available in English or Spanish and guest attendance limited to 15.

Couples must purchase a marriage license and make an appointment in advance at the Clerk-Recorder’s Office at 1021 I St. in Modesto. The cost is $121, or $126 for a confidential license. Officials encourage early reservations, noting Valentine’s Day fills quickly. The mansion’s gift shop will be open with themed items, and flash photography is not permitted.
