Fall Breakfast Fundraiser Set for Nov. 9 in Gustine
Our Lady of Miracles Council 11653 and the OLM Catholic Daughters will host their annual Fall Breakfast on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the OLM Parish Center 1, located at 407 Laurel Ave.
The breakfast runs from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and includes pancakes, eggs, linguica, orange juice, and coffee. Gluten-free options will be available. A $15 donation is requested at the door, with tickets also available in advance at Pioneer Drug in Gustine.
Multiple payment methods will be accepted, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Proceeds support local community and parish programs.
West Side Theatre Foundation Seeks Volunteers for “Shine Crew”
The West Side Theatre Foundation is calling on community members to join its “Shine Crew,” a volunteer team dedicated to keeping the historic West Side Theatre in top condition. Volunteers are asked to donate just one hour of their time one to two Thursdays per month to help maintain the venue’s welcoming atmosphere.
Organizers say the Shine Crew plays a vital role in preserving the theatre’s charm and cleanliness for patrons and performers alike. Those interested in lending a hand can contact the West Side Theatre Foundation directly for scheduling and details.
Youth Basketball Sign-Ups Open in Newman
The Newman Recreation Department is calling on local boys in grades 6 through 8 to join its upcoming Youth Basketball program. Registration is now open, with a fee of $70 for NCLUSD residents and $80 for non-residents. Players must be in 8th grade if they are 14 years old.

Calling all high school seniors. The 2025-2026 Ducks Unlimited National Scholarship application process is officially open through March 1, 2026. A total of 61 one-time scholarships will be awarded in the spring of 2026, ranging from $10,000 to $500. Gustine Library Announces November Activities for All Ages
The Gustine Library has announced a full lineup of programs for November, offering creative and engaging activities for children, teens, and adults.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, the Adult Book Club will meet at 10:30 a.m., followed by Kids Craft Time for ages 6–12 at 3 p.m.
Kids Game Time for ages 6–12 is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Teens ages 13–19 are invited to decorate colorful lanterns on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 3:30 p.m. Adult Coloring returns on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m., and Teen Coloring will be held Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 3:30 p.m.
Weekly programs include Tiny Tales Story Time for ages 3–6 every Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by Family LEGO Time at 1 p.m.

Newman Library Announces November Events for All Ages
The Newman Library has released its November calendar, featuring a variety of programs for children, teens, and families.
Trading Card Game Night will be held on Tuesdays, Nov. 4 and 18, from 5 to 7 p.m., offering a space for youth to play and trade cards.
Weekly Wednesday activities include Story Time from 10 to 10:30 a.m., followed by Wee Move & Play from 10:30 to 11 a.m. These programs run Nov. 5, 12, 19 and 26.
Lego Days return on Thursdays, Nov. 6 and 20, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., encouraging creativity and hands-on fun.
On Tuesday, Nov. 25, the library will host a Tea Light Planet Painting activity from 4 to 5 p.m. for young artists.

Newman Historical Society Welcomes Community to Monthly Meetings and Holiday Luncheon
The Newman Historical Society continues to foster local heritage through regular meetings, museum hours, and seasonal events. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. in the basement of the Newman City Museum on Kern Street.
In December, members and guests are invited to a Christmas luncheon at the Mason Jar restaurant, also scheduled for the second Thursday of the month. For details, contact Mary Vaz Moore at (209) 862-3822.
Annual dues remain unchanged since the society’s founding. Rates are $10 for individuals, $15 for families, $20 for businesses or organizations, $150 for lifetime membership, and $200 for lifetime business membership.
