The Newman Fire Station responded to 28 calls for service from July 11 to 17. The calls included 18 for Emergency Medical Services, one hay fire, one smoke check, one vehicle collision, two public assists, two vegetation fires and three vehicle fires.
On July 11, at 8:44 p.m., the Newman Station was dispatched to a hay fire in the area of Stuhr Road and Hale Road. Upon arrival, the fire crews found two wood-burning piles. The fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and obtained information. There were no reports of injuries or damage estimates, and the cause was intentional.
On July 14, at 5:08 p.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for a vegetation fire in the 2700 block of Fig Lane. The fire crews arrived to find an overgrown field with annual grasses on fire. Irrigation roads contained the fire, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly. There were no reports of injuries or damages. The cause was due to a transient’s cooking fire.
On July 15, at 2:17 a.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for a vehicle fire in the area of Stuhr Road and Interstate 5. Upon arrival, the fire crews found a big-rig trailer fully involved in flames. The fire crews diligently worked to extinguish the trailer. The trailer was hauling cases of plastic bags. There were no reports of injury, and the damages are estimated at $250,000.
