The Newman Fire Station responded to 23 calls for service from May 23 to 28. The calls included 15 for Emergency Medical Services, one public assist, one vegetation fire, two vehicle collisions, two fire out calls, one lock out call, one vehicle fire call.
On May 25, at 5:53 a.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for a vehicle fire in the area of Interstate 5 and Pete Miller Road. Upon arrival, the fire crews were tasked with extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire and any damage is under investigation. There were no reports of injuries.
On May 26, at 6:48 p.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for a vehicle collision near River Road and Hills Ferry Road. Upon arrival, the fire crews were assigned to provide traffic control, patient assessment, and secure the vehicle. There were significant injuries reported. Damages were unknown at the time of the report.
On May 27, at 7:25 p.m., the Newman Station was dispatched for a fire out in the 1500 block of Sandy Creek Drive. Upon arrival, the fire crews discovered a cooking fire with light smoke still filling the residence. The fire crews quickly removed the smoke and secured the residence. There were no reported injuries, and damages were estimated at $500.00.
Gustine Fire Department
The Gustine Fire Department responded to 20 calls for service from May 19 to May 26. The calls included eight for Emergency Medical Services, one vehicle fire, four vegetation fires, two alarms sounding, three motor vehicle collisions, one assist other agency and one medical rescue.
On May 24 at 10:36 a.m., E74 out of Gustine was dispatched to assist the City of Newman with reports of a vegetation fire off Prince and Straw Bridge road. Newman City E55 arrived at scene and was able to control the fire without the assistance from E74. E74 returned to its respective station without any injuries to report.
On Saturday, May 24, at approximately 9:16 p.m., E74 was dispatched to assist other Merced County Fire resources with a medical rescue in the Santa Nella area. It was reported that a fisherman slipped into the Delta-Mendota Canal but was able to climb out. The patient was evaluated by paramedics and refused care.
