Gunfire leads to arrests in Santa Nella; No injuries reported

SANTA NELLA, Calif. — Two Los Banos men were arrested early on the morning of Nov. 7 after Merced County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire east of Interstate 5.

At approximately 1:23 a.m. on Nov. 1, Deputy Casas was patrolling near Henry Miller Road in Santa Nella when he heard multiple gunshots, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. Moments later, he observed a vehicle speeding past and initiated a traffic stop.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found several spent shell casings and a 1911 Rock Island handgun. The passenger, Ignacio Morales Jr., 20, was arrested on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm and booked into the Merced County Jail.

The driver, Jesus Morales Espinoza, 21, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.

No injuries or property damage were reported in connection with the incident.
