Newman Police Department

Activity Report

The Newman Police Department received 86 calls for service and reported 94 officer-initiated calls for a total of 180 incidents from March 22 to March 28. There were 19 cases opened and four arrests were made.

The department issued five traffic citations, one criminal citation, eight parking citations and two animal citations. Three vehicles were towed.

 

Vandalism

The police department took two reports of vandalism done to two vehicles on March 22.

The first was parked in the driveway at a home in the 1900 block of Leslie Avenue. The reporting party stated a Volkswagon Passat had the rear side door dented. The estimated damage was $200.

The second vandalism was to a Honda CRV parked in the driveway in the 2200 block of Sunny Creek. The report indicates there was damage to the body near the roof line of the front and back passenger side, front windshield, front passenger window and rear passenger taillight. The damage was estimated at $400.

Both cases were closed for lack of leads, according to the police department.

 

Auto theft

A 1997 GMC Sierra was reported stolen from the 600 block of Fig Lane on March 27. The reporting party stated it had been stolen from the backyard. The loss was estimated at $4,000.

 

Burglary

Tools were stolen out of a toolbox in the bed of a 2004 Ford Ranger on March 22. The auto burglary happened in the 2100 block of Hot Springs. The stolen tools included a welding torch, a Sawzall and welding gauges. The loss was estimated at $2,400. The case was closed for lack of leads.

Arrests

Jose Garcia Abarca, 18, of Livermore was arrested on March 22 for DUI, DUI of .08 or more and driving on a license suspended for DUI.

Javier Diaz, 20, of Newman was arrested on March 26 for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with possible great bodily injury and obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

Martin Martinez Franco, 47, of Watsonville was arrested on March 26 for driving on a license suspended for DUI and having false tabs.

Gustine Police Department

Activity Report

Sounds of shots fired

The Gustine Police Department got a report of possible gunfire or fireworks on March 23 on Jensen Road. The reporting party stated she heard five or six shots around 8:30 p.m.

 

Theft

A man wearing all black took multiple items from the Family Dollar combo store on 2nd Avenue. The theft was reported shortly before 10 p.m. on March 23.

 

Arrests

Daniel Huerta, 24, was arrested at 9:56 p.m. on March 22, in the area of Fentem and Whitworth roads for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.

Kristinia Danielle Wright, 38, was arrested at 12:12 a.m. on March 23 in the area of Highway 140 and Kniebes Road for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.
