Newman Police Department
The Newman Police Department received 67 calls for service and reported 78 calls for service for a total of 145 incidents from July 11 to July 17.
The department opened up 14 cases and made five arrests. The department issued 17 traffic citations, one criminal citation, nine parking citations d one municipal code violation.
Sticky substance damages vehicles on Newman’s M Street
On July 13, a vandalism incident was reported in the 1300 block of M Street in Newman involving four parked vehicles. According to the Newman Police Department, a Toyota Tacoma, a Toyota Camry, and two Honda Civics were splattered with a brown, sticky substance along their passenger sides.
Upon cleaning, the substance was found to have eaten through the paint, leaving pitted divot-like chips. The damage is estimated at approximately $500 per vehicle, totaling around $2,000. The case has been closed due to no available leads.

Confidential Male, 32, Newman was arrested on July 13, for domestic violence (felony).
Lauren Espinoza, 30, Newman was arrested on July 14, for a warrant arrest out of Stanislaus County (misdemeanor).
Steve Carmona, 42, Newman was arrested on July 14, for a warrant arrest out of Merced County (misdemeanor).
Confidential Male, 47, Newman was arrested on July 14, for domestic violence.

Jason Edward Simmons, 54, was arrested at 3:42 p.m. on July 12 in the area of 7th St. and 4th Ave. for obstructing and/or resisting arrest, DUI, DUI of .08 percent or more and vehicle code violations.
Jorge Luis Reyes Jr., 22, was arrested at 7:58 a.m. on July 16 in the 600 block of Third Avenue for possession of brass knuckles.
