Newman Police Department

The Newman Police Department received 79 calls for service and reported 76 officer-initiated calls for a total of 155 incidents from June 20 to June 26. There were seven cases opened and two arrests.

The department issued five traffic citations, one criminal citation, 12 parking citations and one animal citation.

 

Police investigating vandalism at two Newman churches

The Newman Police Department is investigating two separate acts of vandalism that occurred at local churches within the same week.

On June 21, officers responded to a report of property damage in the 1100 block of P Street, where a fence at a church was found damaged. The estimated cost of the damage is $200, and the case remains active.

Four days later, on June 25, police received a second report from St. Joachim’s Catholic Church on Main Street, where several stained glass panels had been broken. That incident resulted in approximately $800 in damage. The case has been closed due to a lack of investigative leads.

Arrests

Enrique Mendoza, 41, of Newman was arrested on June 20, for possession of a controlled substance while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon on his person, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Vicente Gomez, 43, of Patterson was arrested on June 26, for exhibiting a deadly weapon (not a firearm), fighting or challenging to fight in a public place, obstructing or resisting a peace officer, and four active warrants out of Stanislaus County.

The Gustine Police Department had no arrests to report from this time period.
