Newman Police Department

The Newman Police Department received 64 calls for service and reported 78 officer-initiated calls for a total of 142 incidents from Oct. 10 to Oct. 16. The department opened 18 cases and made eight arrests.

The department issued 14 traffic citations, one criminal citation, and one parking citation. Two vehicles were towed.

 

Newman Police investigate vehicle and property thefts

Newman Police investigated multiple thefts this week, including the reported loss of a vehicle and two larceny cases.

On Oct. 14, officers responded to the area of Sandy Creek and Upper Road for the theft of a 2014 Honda Accord valued at $7,000. The vehicle’s key was accounted for and no one had permission to drive it, according to police. The case has since been closed due to lack of leads.

Two larcenies were also reported:

  • On Oct. 10, a black electric scooter was stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 600 block of Real Avenue. The scooter was described as having a loose odometer, copper tire cover, scuffed rear tire, and a removable rubber footpad. Estimated value: $1,800.
  • On Oct. 12, two containers of cooked chicken were stolen from a business on the 1900 block of N Street. Thomas Dancer was arrested and booked in connection with the theft. Estimated value: $20.

No burglaries were reported during the same period. Police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and secure personal property.

 

Arrests

Thomas Dancer, 25, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 12 for shoplifting (misdemeanor) and trespassing (misdemeanor).

Kevin Moore, 62, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 12 for warrant arrest–Stanislaus County (misdemeanor).

Gabriel Mesa, 50, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 13 for warrant arrest–Stanislaus County (misdemeanor).

Pearl Olivo, 46, of Newman was arrested on Oct. 13 for driving with license suspended (misdemeanor).

Sarah Schaa, 28, of Patterson was arrested on Oct. 14 for grand theft (felony), petty theft with priors (felony), and probation violation (felony).

 

Gustine Police Department

Gustine Police respond to suspicious activity, theft, and DUI arrests

Gustine Police investigated multiple incidents this past week, including suspicious circumstances, theft, and a DUI arrest.

Three separate reports of suspicious activity were logged between Oct. 11 and Oct. 15. Officers responded to the 900 block of Sylvia Street on Oct. 11, the 30 block of Fairview Avenue on Oct. 12, and the intersection of 4th Avenue and 7th Street on Oct. 15. All incidents were closed without further action.

On Oct. 15, police took a report for theft at the Gustine Public Works facility on the 700 block of East Avenue. Details of the stolen property were not disclosed.

In addition to local calls, Gustine officers assisted in a felony arrest on Oct. 10 near Hunt Road and Highway 140 in Merced County. Charges included possession of a forged driver’s license, DUI, and driving with a suspended license.

A separate DUI arrest occurred on Oct. 11 at 4th Street and 1st Avenue in Gustine. The driver was cited for driving under the influence and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Police continue to monitor suspicious activity and encourage residents to report concerns promptly.

 

Arrests

Ricardo Garciaortiz, 21, was arrested at 1:11 PM on Oct. 15 in the area of the 6800 block of Moffatt Rd for prohibited person owning/possessing ammunition (felony).

Cassandra Oliva, 28, was arrested at 11:40 PM on Oct. 14 in the area of S Hunt Rd and Sullivan Rd for bench warrant/failure to appear on felony charge (felony) and driving with license suspended for DUI.

Eric Victor Villegas, 33, was arrested at 8:04 PM on Oct. 11 in the area of 4th St and 1st Av for DUI alcohol (misdemeanor), DUI alcohol/0.08 percent (misdemeanor), and no proof of insurance.

Jose Israel Crisostomo Campos, 42, was arrested at 9:36 PM on Oct. 10 in the area of Hunt Rd and Hwy 140 for possessing driver’s license/ID to commit forgery (felony), DUI alcohol (misdemeanor), DUI alcohol/0.08 percent (misdemeanor), driving with license suspended for DUI, and giving false ID to a peace officer (misdemeanor).
