NEWMAN — Ariel Medina, a standout student from Newman and the 2025 valedictorian of Orestimba High School, is among more than 40 California scholars awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships this year by Golden 1 Credit Union.
Medina, a first-generation college student, plans to attend Stanford University this fall to study biology. With aspirations to improve bilingual healthcare access, he hopes to strengthen support for multilingual communities across the state. Medina’s academic excellence and community involvement earned him one of Golden 1’s prestigious scholarships, which can be worth up to $20,000 per student.
Golden 1 launched its scholarship program in 2013 and has since awarded close to $5 million to nearly 600 college-bound Californians. The initiative supports students attending in-state community colleges and universities, reinforcing the credit union’s commitment to education and community empowerment.
This year’s recipients include young leaders with exceptional academic records, extensive volunteer service, and ambitious career goals. Medina, who played junior varsity baseball and football and varsity basketball, exemplifies the program’s mission to uplift students who are poised to make meaningful contributions in their communities.
Golden 1 scholarships are open annually to eligible California students pursuing higher education in-state.
