Gustine city manager announces resignation after 20-month tenure
Gustine City Manager Soknirom Than

GUSTINE — Gustine City Manager Soknirom Than has announced his resignation, effective Oct. 28, after serving in the role for just over 20 months.

Than, who was hired in February 2024 following a months-long search, submitted his resignation on Sept. 3. In a written statement, he described his time in Gustine as “a place of purpose, connection, and deep pride,” and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community.

“Being in Gustine has been a privilege,” Than said. “I’ve had the honor of working alongside dedicated staff and community members who care deeply about this City’s future. Together, we’ve strengthened public services, built trust across departments, and fostered a culture of collaboration and transparency.”

Than’s departure marks another transition in a position that has seen multiple changes in recent years. The role was previously held by Anna Nicholas, who stepped down in August 2023. Administrative Services Director Melanie Correa served as interim city manager until her hours were maxed out, prompting the City Council to appoint Brad Kilger as a temporary replacement. Kilger’s tenure lasted only one meeting before Than was hired.

Than came to Gustine from the City of Los Banos, where he served as Public Works Director. His employment contract, approved unanimously by the City Council in February 2024, included a $150,000 annual salary and provisions for performance evaluations and potential extensions through 2029.

In his resignation statement, Than emphasized his commitment to a smooth transition and voiced confidence in the city’s leadership team.

“My focus remains on supporting the team that will carry Gustine forward,” he said. “I know the City is in capable hands.”

The City Council has not yet announced plans for appointing an interim manager or initiating a new search.
