Gustine expands volunteer program with new opportunities

GUSTINE — The City of Gustine has broadened and updated its volunteer program, offering residents more ways to support community services, beautification projects and public safety efforts.

City officials said the revamped program is designed to make volunteering easier and more flexible, allowing people to sign up for alerts and participate when their schedules allow.

The program now includes opportunities in park and street clean‑ups, recreation special events, park planting and community gardening, and volunteer roles with the Police Department’s Teen Explorer Program, the Police Department’s adult volunteer program and the Fire Department. Additional assignments are available throughout the year as city needs arise.

City staff said the expanded program also offers practical benefits for participants, including work experience, volunteer service hours, references, scholarship application support and exposure to future job opportunities. Officials emphasized that the program is open to residents with a wide range of interests and experience levels.

Residents who are short on time can join the city’s volunteer notification list to receive email or text alerts when new opportunities become available. The city said the goal is to help more people get involved without requiring long‑term commitments.

“Be the heart of our community and volunteer,” the city said in its announcement, noting that volunteering helps residents meet new people, build skills and make a positive impact.
