NEWMAN, Calif.  — The Newman City Council has officially approved a resolution to continue funding and maintaining local parks, sidewalks, and streetlights for the upcoming fiscal year. The initiative ensures public spaces remain clean, safe, and enjoyable for residents, all while staying within the city’s budget.

The resolution, passed during Tuesday’s council meeting, begins the annual process of collecting assessments that fund the city’s Lighting and Landscape Maintenance District. Newman’s 15 zones, covered under this program, will benefit from services such as tree trimming, graffiti removal, irrigation maintenance, and pathway repairs.

Under the Landscape and Lighting Act of 1972, the city uses these assessments to fund neighborhood improvements. By approving the resolution, the City Council has authorized the preparation of an engineer's report—a detailed document that outlines the costs and maintenance plans for the fiscal year 2025–2026.

City officials emphasized the importance of the program in preserving Newman’s quality of life. “This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and vibrant public spaces,” they stated.

With the engineer's report now underway, the next steps will include a public hearing for community input before the assessments are finalized. The annual process remains cost-neutral, with no additional impact on taxpayers.

Residents can look forward to continued upkeep of sidewalks, lighting systems, and landscaped areas, as the city moves ahead with its long-standing commitment to keeping neighborhoods clean and welcoming.
