The Newman City Council has appointed three residents to the city’s Architectural Review Committee, filling most of the seats that will become vacant this spring. The appointments were approved as part of the council’s consent calendar during its Feb. 10 meeting.
The committee, established under City Code Section 4.13.060, is made up of five members representing specific categories: a planning commissioner, a Newman Historical Society member, a city resident at‑large, a business or Chamber of Commerce representative, and a building professional such as an architect, architectural historian or related specialist. City officials noted that while they strive to meet all professional requirements outlined in the code, qualified applicants are not always available within the community.
Four vacancies are scheduled for this year, including the resident at‑large, business/Chamber of Commerce, Newman Historical Society and building professional seats. Two of the openings stem from expiring terms in April, while two others were created by resignations in 2025.
The city received three applications for the positions. Donald Harmon, who has served on the committee since 2017, was reappointed to the business/Chamber of Commerce seat. Renae Chance‑Dominguez, a member of the Newman Historical Society, was appointed to fill the society’s designated seat. Diane Glendenning, who previously served on planning and historical committees in Talent, Oregon, was appointed to the building professional seat.
Chance‑Dominguez and Glendenning will complete unexpired terms ending in April 2027. Harmon’s new term will begin in April 2026 and run through April 2028.
The resident at‑large seat, currently held by Mia Ball, will become vacant at the end of April. Ball chose not to seek reappointment, and the city will continue recruiting applicants for that position.
All three newly approved appointments take effect immediately.
