NEWMAN — The City of Newman is inviting residents to apply for upcoming vacancies on city commissions and committees, including four seats on the Architectural Review Committee.

Each year, the city publishes a list of expiring appointed terms and vacant seats for the coming year. For 2026, two seats on the Architectural Review Committee are set to expire in April. Incumbents Mia Ball, an at-large member, and Donald Harmon, representing the business/chamber sector, were both reappointed in 2024 and will conclude their current terms in 2026.

In addition to those expiring terms, the city is seeking candidates to fill two unexpired seats on the same committee. One vacancy is designated for a building professional, and the other for a representative of the Newman Historical Society. Both unexpired terms will run through April 2027.

Interested residents are encouraged to complete a Citizen Service application and submit it to the City Clerk at City Hall, located at 938 Fresno Street. Applications may be mailed to P.O. Box 787 or dropped off using the secure drop box in front of City Hall. Submissions will be accepted until the positions are filled.

City officials said the Newman City Council may interview applicants and make appointments during a regularly scheduled meeting, likely in early 2026.

The Architectural Review Committee plays a key role in preserving the city’s character and guiding development decisions. Officials hope to attract applicants with a passion for community planning, historic preservation, and architectural integrity.
