PATTERSON — A major step forward in expanding health care access on the West Side is officially underway. The Del Puerto Health Care District (DPHCD) has selected HDR, a nationally recognized architectural and design firm, to lead development of a new, multi-phase health care campus in Patterson.
The DPHCD Board of Directors approved HDR’s hiring during its May 19 meeting. The project will span 27.5 acres and eventually include a full spectrum of health care services — from behavioral health to senior living facilities, with long-term plans for a future hospital.
“This is a huge step forward for our community,” said Becky Campo, president of the district’s Board. “We knew this campus had to reflect both the values and the future of Patterson — in HDR, we found a partner that understands how to design for the unique needs of rural California.”
Initial development plans include:
- An ambulance and administration center
- A community mental health clinic
- A relocation of the Del Puerto Health Clinic
- Senior housing options including independent and assisted living, memory care, and eventually skilled nursing
The design phase is slated to begin this summer, with the first facilities expected to open by 2028. Construction will unfold in phases through 2040, ensuring flexibility as the city’s needs evolve.
“We’re thrilled to partner with HDR in this next step toward realizing our vision for the future of health care on the West Side,” said Dr. Karin Freese, CEO of DPHCD. “Their experience designing community-centered spaces and understanding of rural systems makes them the right team to help us move forward.”
To keep the public engaged, the district will host a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, July 14 in the Patterson City Council Chambers at 1 Plaza Circle. Residents will hear updates from HDR and district officials and have a chance to share their ideas and concerns.
