Joan M. Vargas, a beloved and lifelong resident of Newman, CA, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born in Newman, Joan was a dedicated member of her community. She was an alumna of Orestimba High School and attended Modesto Junior College and Cal Poly State University. Her professional career was as an accountant, but her true passion was service. She dedicated 13 years to the local school board and served as a 4-H leader for over 37 years.

Joan was a selfless supporter of her family, friends, and the people of Newman. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to have known her.

Joan M. Vargas was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel G. Vargas and her parents, Gilda and Joaquin Cabral. She is survived by her four children, Bob Vargas of Newman; Daniela Massey of Arroyo Grande, CA; Pamela Eiriksson of Boulder Creek, CA; and Stephen Vargas of Davis, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Matt, Kianna, Emili and Taylor Vargas, and Joseph Massey—and two great-grandchildren, Alanna and Jacoby Vargas.

A Visitation was held from 5:00pm to 6:00pm followed by a Rosary from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, Dec 18, 2025 at Hillview Funeral Chapels in Newman, CA. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00am Friday, Dec 19 at
St. Joachims Catholic Church in Newman, CA.
