GUSTINE — The Gustine Reds’ winless season continued Saturday night with a lopsided 66-13 loss to the visiting Mariposa Grizzlies, a matchup defined by relentless defensive pressure and early turnovers that the Reds never recovered from.
Gustine (0-10) opened with a brief burst of momentum. Frank Silvera knocked down a three-pointer to get the Reds on the board, and Rodrigo Solorio added two free throws after a Mariposa technical foul. But those early highlights were quickly overshadowed as the Grizzlies (6-9) unleashed a full‑court press that forced repeated turnovers and fueled a 31-5 first‑quarter deficit.
The second quarter offered little relief. Mariposa added 19 more points while holding Gustine to four—all scored by Solorio—sending the Reds into halftime trailing 50-9 and struggling to move the ball past midcourt.
Both teams rotated players in the second half, but the tone remained unchanged. Solorio added a free throw in the third, and Emilio Cabalero scored a bucket, but the Reds continued to face heavy defensive pressure. Gustine managed just one point in the fourth, a free throw from Cabalero, as Mariposa closed out the 53‑point victory.
Solorio led Gustine with seven points, while Silvera finished with three on his early three‑pointer and Cabalero added three more for the Reds.
Now 0-11, Gustine will look to regroup on the road when they face the Delhi Hawks on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.
