Gustine comes up with some wins at SAL Finals

Gustine High’s track and field team were able to rustle up some top ten finishes at the Southern Athletic League Finals at Waterford High School on May 7.

Gustine sophomores Jose Duran and Jonathan Guerrero took second and third, respectively and each set personal records in the 100-meters junior varsity race. Duran had a time of 13.68 and Guerrero had a time of 14.09.

Freshman Brady Ramos took third in the 800-meters junior varsity race with a time of 2:40.96. Ramos also took first in the junior varsity 1600-meters race with a personal record of 5:30.75.

Freshman Jeff Camara was fourth in the junior varsity 110-meters hurdles race with a time of 22.71, which was a personal record for him.

In field events, sophomore Deimian Cardona took 10th place in the varsity 12-pound shot put with a distance of 32’ 6”. Cardona also took seventh in the 1.6 kilogram discus throw, with a distance of 93’ 7.5”.

Camara also competed in field events and took third in the long jump with a personal record of 14’ 1”.

In the women’s field events, freshmen Isabello Haro and Emireth Nieto took sixth and seventh in the varsity 4 kilogram shot put event. Haro had a distance of 24’ 5” and Nieto had a distance of 24’ 2”, which was a personal record.

Haro also took fourth place in the varsity 1 kilogram discus event with a distance of 76’ 3.5”.

The team will be competing at the division prelims at Riverbank High on Wednesday.
