GUSTINE - The Gustine High School volleyball squad delivered a spirited performance Wednesday night, downing the visiting Modesto Christian Crusaders with a final match score of 3-1. The victory provides a much-needed boost for the Reds as they move through the season.
The action was electric from the start on the Gustine home court. The Reds came out firing, quickly establishing dominance by taking the first two matches with scores of 25-21 and 25-14. The team's coordinated play and aggressive serving had the Crusaders on their heels.
However, Modesto Christian refused to be swept. In the third match, the Crusaders mounted a fierce comeback, battling for every point. The set was a nail-biter, with Modesto Christian ultimately edging out the Reds to take the set 25-23. The loss briefly shifted the momentum and signaled that the Crusaders were not giving up without a fight.
The brief setback only seemed to fuel the Gustine squad. Moving into the fourth match, a "fire was lit" under the Reds. They dominated the court, showcasing powerful attacks and solid defense to overwhelm the Crusaders. Gustine cruised to a decisive victory in the fourth set, securing the match with a score of 25-10 and sealing the overall 3-1 win.
The standout player of the evening for the Reds was # 13 Adamaris Sierra, who delivered an impressive performance at the net, tallying 13 Kills to lead the team's offense.
The now 4-8 Reds will look to build on this momentum with two upcoming matches. They will face a tough challenge at home on Monday, September 29, at 6:00 p.m. against the 10-7 Stone Ridge Christian Knights. They will then travel to take on the 5-14 Le Grand Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 1, in Le Grand.
