GUSTINE — The Gustine High School volleyball team continued to struggle this week, dropping back-to-back matches and extending its losing streak to four.

The Reds fell 3-0 to Le Grand on Monday, with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-22. The loss echoed their previous defeat to the Bulldogs last October, when Gustine managed to take one set in a 3-1 outcome.

Sierra recorded seven digs, five kills and five aces, while Lopez added six aces, five kills and four digs. Lopez has tallied at least five kills in every match this season. Syrena Chacon also contributed defensively with 10 digs.

Gustine’s record dropped to 2-5 following the loss.

Two days later, the Reds were unable to rebound, falling 3-0 to Mariposa County. The Grizzlies, who also defeated Gustine last October, continued their strong run with set scores that were not disclosed. The win marked Mariposa County’s seventh in their last eight games, improving their season record to 12-6. Gustine fell to 2-6.

The Reds will look to regroup on the road Monday when they face Waterford at 6 p.m.
