RIPON – One week after finding the end zone in a Trans-Valley League game, the Orestimba High football team was looking for continued success against Ripon Christian High’s squad in Friday’s contest.

But that would not be the case for the Warriors.

The host Knights, who held a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, scored six touchdowns in the second quarter. That led to a 57-0 victory over Orestimba (0-5 in the TVL, 2-7 overall).

“Defensively, we saw a lot of bright spots,” said Orestimba head coach Austin Martins. “We were able to make RC drive down the field to start the game and force a turnover.”

The Knights led 49-0 at halftime.

The second half showed the Warriors showing signs of improvement on offense.

“We have to do a better of not shooting ourselves in the foot when having momentum and moving the ball,” Martins said.

Orestimba had 131 total offensive yards; 110 rushing and 21 passing.

Warrior running back Michael Maier had 8 carries for 53 yards, plus a reception for 14 yards. Fellow back Jose Cuevas followed with 8 carries for 36 yards.

Ripon Christian had 377 total offensive yards; 218 rushing and 159 passing. Amos Cady was the Knights’ leading rusher with 7 carries for 76 yards.

The win improves Ripon Christian to 4-1 in the TVL and an 8-1 mark, entering this Friday’s showdown at Sonora (5-0 in the TVL, 9-0).

Orestimba scored its first two touchdowns of league play at Hughson on Oct. 17. Maier scored both Warriors’ touchdowns in this game and rushed 9 times for 127 yards.

Orestimba will close out the regular season at Warrior Stadium this Friday against Escalon (2-3 in the TVL, 4-5).

“Escalon is a known TVL powerhouse, and I have a lot of respect for coach (Andrew Beam) and what they have (done) over there,” said Martins of the Cougars. “I am excited for this opportunity this Friday for our seniors to play their Senior Night as well. We always play for our seniors, and it will be special to honor those seniors.”
