Orestimba boys’ basketball drops to 0-3 after tough opening stretch

NEWMAN — The season has started on a rough note for the Orestimba Warriors boys basketball team, who have dropped their first three contests in decisive fashion.

Orestimba opened on the road Friday against Liberty Ranch, falling 66-25 after trailing 42-9 at halftime. The Warriors hoped to rebound Monday against Mariposa County, but instead suffered a 60-49 loss to the Grizzlies. The defeat marked the team’s fifth straight setback dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, senior guard Rudy Corona led the Warriors with 12 points, while senior forward Alan Gamboa added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Warriors’ struggles continued Saturday in Modesto, where Johansen rolled to a 70-21 non-league victory. The loss dropped Orestimba to 0-3 on the year.

Orestimba will look to regroup Tuesday when they travel to face Le Grand in a non-league matchup. The Bulldogs enter with an identical 0-3 record after a 56-29 loss to Yosemite of Oakhurst. The Warriors return home Thursday, Dec. 4, for a neutral non-conference game against Millennium of Tracy. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
