After losing its previous two games coming in, Orestimba High baseball team concluded its non-league schedule with an 18-0 win against Delta Charter High last Friday in Tracy.

The Warriors improved to 6-4 overall, while the Dragons fell 0-4. Orestimba remains undefeated through an all-time matchup against Delta Charter at 3-0 since both programs’ first matchup in 2017.

Seven Warriors recorded an RBI and were led by utility player Adrian Gonzalez. The sophomore went 2-4 with four RBIs, two runs and a triple. Four different players each recorded two RBIs.

At the mound, Orestimba pitcher Ray Montes recorded eight strikeouts, but allowed two hits and a walk through five innings.

With back-to-back double-digit losses, head coach Louie Dominguez said the team didn’t show any effort, and it reflected in the box scores. Now ten games in, he felt the program is better than where it was to begin the season.

“We still have to get better at a few things. Our focus has to get better,” Dominguez said. “They’re having fun out there, but it’s a young team, so we’ll just have to continue to do that.”

Orestimba jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the top of the first inning. They scored three more runs in the second.

Through each inning, the Dragons couldn’t respond as the Warriors outfielders stopped every fly ball. In four and fifth innings, Orestimba scored a combined nine runs to end the game.

The Warriors will begin Trans-Valley League play when the team hosts a series opener against Sonora High on Wednesday. The first pitch will begin at 4 p.m.

Dominguez said Wednesday’s matchup will be the team’s “biggest series” so far in the season.
