In its second meet of the season, Orestimba High School track and field team left Golden Valley High School (Merced) with four first-place finishes in the 17th Annual Dean Andreessen Classic on Saturday.

Sophomore Brett Gray, senior Marian Quevedo and freshman Jade Carmona each recorded a top placement in their respective event. Gray left Merced with two first-place finishes in the boys freshman and sophomore long jump and triple jump event.

Orestimba head coach Charlie Kothenbeutel said he was glad that some of the newcomers had the opportunity to compete, especially if it was their first-ever meet.

“We’ve got a lot of new people out there, or people trying track [and field] for the first time,” he said. “[It was] great for them to get the experience of what it's like at a track meet.”

In the long jump, Gray leaped 19 feet and 11 inches to secure first place. He tied Dylan McCauley for the sixth-highest jump in the program’s all-time list for the event. The sophomore athletes later jumped 36-9.25 to win the triple jump.

After winning two events to open the season, Quevedo carried her momentum in the girls varsity 100-meter hurdles. The senior athlete clocked in 15.87 to win the event, which was .72 seconds faster than runner-up Zoe Gonzales of Golden Valley. Quevedo is now the school’s fastest runner in the event as her time surpassed Gabi Swisher’s time of 18.03 seconds set in a Southern Athletic League meet in 2023.

Carmona won the girls freshman and sophomore 1600-meter race with a time of 5:57.17. She was 18.73 seconds faster than Gregori High’s Cassandra-Reinhart Cangco. Her dash is the program’s fifth-best all-time time in the event.

While Orestimba didn’t get any first-place finishes afterwards, the team also had seven top-four placements.

Sophomore Israel Ramirez came in second place in the boys varsity 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.93, making him .40 seconds shy of first place from Turlock High senior Camden Smith. He now holds the second-best all-time time in the event for the program as he trails himself for the best time of 15.81 seconds, which was set in last season’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV and V finals.

Junior Imelda Beltran leaped 16-1.25 for a second-place finish in the girls varsity long jump event. She later came in fourth place in the girls varsity 200-meter run with a time of 27.67.

In the girls varsity 300-meter hurdles, Quevedo ran a time of 48.05 for a second-place finish. She now holds the school’s top two times in the event, with the fastest being 47.24 seconds in last season’s Trans-Valley League Varsity Championships.

Carmona clocked in 2:43.12 for second place in the girls freshman and sophomore 800-meter race.

Sophomore Madalynn Hernandez ended the girls freshman and sophomore 400-meter run in third place with a time of 1:09.44.

In the girls 4x400-meters relay, Orestimba ran a time of 4:28.18 for a fourth-place finish.

The Warriors will travel to Riverbank High for the Stanislaus County Championships on Friday, with the first event beginning at 2 p.m.
