Orestimba High football team concluded its first season under head coach Austin Martins with a 20-7 loss against Beyer High in the first iteration of a Sac-Joaquin Section bowl game Friday at Orestimba.

The Warriors finish the 2025 campaign at 2-9 overall (0-6) and winless in Trans-Valley League play.

While it's not the result that he’d hoped, Martins said he learned something new every week. “I’ve learned so much and all I can keep doing is keep growing and keep growing for these guys,” he said.

Martin added that he hopes to uphold the standard former head coach Aaron Souza set before he stepped down last June.

“He’s like an uncle to me and everything he’s taught me and talked to me, I try to cherish it and carry it on to all these other guys as well,” he said. “If I could just be half the coach he was and the man he was, we’ll be fine.”

Orestimba’s offense struggled to move the ball down the field as Beyer’s defense only allowed the Warriors to get past the 30-yard line once in the opening half.

After a scoreless first quarter, Beyer scored the game’s first touchdown in the second. Senior Jacob Towe threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to senior John Mustapha to lead 7-0. The Patriots ended the half with a field goal to lead 10-0 going into halftime.

After scoring another field goal, Patriots’ Adrian Revera capped off a seven-play drive with a rushing touchdown to lead 20-0 going into the fourth quarter.

Orestimba scored its first touchdown after senior quarterback Giovanni Gudino threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Sean Nunes to trail 20-7 with two minutes left.

19 seniors take final bow

Friday’s contest was not only the final game of the season, it was also the end of high school football for 19 Warriors players.

After the game, the team gathered near a goalpost where senior players reflected on their time. As a former player himself who remembered playing his final game, Martins held back his tears when listening to the players’ speeches.

He said he wants the soon-to-be-graduates to know that some of the lessons learned such as being on time and not focusing on the past can translate beyond the gridiron.

“All the little things that we talk about, they translate to life. And so if they can do that, they’re going to be hell of a man at their jobs, at their careers and they’ll be great fathers.”
