TURLOCK – In three non-league games last week, the Orestimba High softball team scored a combined 32 runs.
Yes, nearly three-dozen runs.
Here is a breakdown of the Warriors’ games. Entering this week’s games against non-league foes and a Trans-Valley League foe, Orestimba is 5-1.
Orestimba 15, Turlock 3
In Friday’s game on the Bulldogs’ diamond that was called after five innings because of the mercy rule, Orestimba scored seven times in the top of the first inning. The Warriors added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning.
After Turlock sent two runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-2 score, Orestimba went on another run outburst in the top of the fifth frame with six runs. The Bulldogs added their final run at the bottom of the same inning.
The Warriors banged out 20 hits in this game. Cayla Finley and Rae Oliveros had three hits each for Orestimba.
Seven Warrior players had two hits each in the contest. Karina Gonzalez, along with Genevieve Armenta, Natalie Corella, Aryanna Arreguin, Salce Machado, Hailey Starr and Ellery Gustafson.
Finley and Gonzalez each had three RBIs.
Turlock finished with seven hits. Rylee Murphy had two hits, while Bulldog teammates Bailey Oates, Madelyn Robison, Audrey Bailey and Chloe Chapman had a hit each.
Starr, in the circle, went the distance for the Warriors. She struck out seven Turlock batters and walked only one.
Orestimba 17, Big Valley Christian 0
The Warriors scored in every inning against the Lions in a non-league game on the Orestimba diamond on March 4.
Orestimba used a combination of 12 hits and 11 Lion errors to record the win.
Machado had the big bat for the Warriors, going 4-for-4. Starr was 3-for-3, while Finley, Gonzalez and Corella each had two hits.
Orestimba 4, Patterson 0
Making the short trek to play its Westside rival on March 3, Orestimba scored two runs in the top of the first and seventh innings.
The Warriors and host Tigers each had six hits.
Finley had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
Starr struck out two Patterson batters and walked none in going the distance.
The Warriors’ defense did the bulk of the load in this game, recording 21 outs.
Upcoming games
On Monday, Orestimba continued its preseason schedule as it hosted Los Banos.
Then the Warriors are back on the diamond against on Tuesday, this time against former Southern Athletic League rival LeGrand.
Orestimba opens TVL action on Thursday, hosting Ripon at 4 p.m.
