The annual local rivalry between the Gustine Reds and the Orestimba Warriors was set aside for a far greater cause last week, as the Warriors hosted their 16th annual "Dig Pink" event.

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month officially underway, the Orestimba gym was packed, crackling with energy as both teams competed, knowing that 100% of the gate proceeds would be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.

While the cause was the clear winner of the night, a fiercely contested volleyball match still unfolded on the court, with the Warriors ultimately besting the Reds three matches to one.

The night featured four intense sets:

• Match 1: Orestimba held off a tough Gustine challenge, finding a late rhythm to win 25-21.

• Match 2: Gustine roared back with a spectacular performance, winning decisively 25-16.

• Match 3: The Warriors dominated completely, taking the set with a commanding 25-8 scoreline.

• Match 4: In a gritty finale, Orestimba managed to outplay a determined Gustine squad, taking the final set 25-21 and the overall match victory.

While the on-court action was fierce, the true story of the night was the extraordinary dedication of the Orestimba community to the "Dig Pink" cause.

This annual event, powered by the incredible support of 90 local sponsors, has raised over an astounding $120,000 since its inception in 2009. This puts Orestimba in a truly elite category: they stand as the #1 donor in the state of California and an incredible #2 in the entire nation for contributions to the foundation. It is an amazing feat that showcases the community's big heart and tireless efforts.

The commitment to the cause continues next week with another key event: the 9th annual Lori Bassett-Branco Volleyball Marathon.

The Lori Bassett-Branco Volleyball Marathon will be held on Saturday, October 11, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Yolo Middle School the cost is $20.00 per person

All proceeds will go directly to the Breast Cancer Society.

The public is encouraged to come out, participate, and support this great cause that continues to define the spirit of the Orestimba community.
